5 Japanese That will be Able in United States

The contradictory 25-year rule, which states that you are not allowed to import sub-25-year-old cars to America, still casts its shadow over America. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) claim that the rule has been created to keep away cars from the country, which fail to meet certain regulations (hence deemed unsafe), from entering the US.

However, we can see right through that statement, as in reality the ban was created in order to ensure that the high sales of the locally produced new cars. However, we have just realized that there are a few great cars, which will celebrate their 25th birthdays very soon – so we will be seeing them in America all legally imported and ready to be enjoyed to the max.

1. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 6 TME

The 8th generation Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution was the first one to come to America – which was approximately 11 years after the release of its first model. The first seven generations are still banned from the American market – so let’s have a look at one of the most outstanding Evos that’s ever come out! The Evo VI Tommi Makinen Edition, whose name was inspired by the Finnish rally driver Tommi Makinen after he came first at four WRC drivers' championships for Mitsubishi.

The car received a number of cosmetic upgrades - red paint and decals, white Enkei wheels and a Recaro interior, as well as more exciting ones such as a front strut brace, a lower ride height and titanium turbine, which makes the turbo reel more quickly. Literally everyone wants to get that EVO, so brace yourself because you’ll need to wait.

2. Honda Beat

Have you heard of the Kei cars? These cars normally come with an engine that has less than 660ccs and a size capped at 3.4m by 1.48 m, which is the reason why consumers receive cut to most automotive-related taxes and insurance in Japan. Usually they come in the form of tall, box-shaped city cars, which hasn’t obstructed some manufacturers from building small sports cars. A great example is Honda Beat, which is a RWD with a convertible roof and a mid-engined layout. It’s N/A engine gives over 9000rpm.
That’s another ride that hasn’t made it to the US yet, but having in mind that the first Beat came out in 1991, we’ll soon be celebrating its first legal import in the US. This sma

3. Nissan Silvia S15

How can you not love Nissan S-chassis that allows for wild drifting, time attack or even to be used as a street racer. The S13 and S14 Silvia made it to the US under the name '240SX', which unfortunately was never the case with the S15, as there are still a few more years to go before its ban is raised. Of course, some passionate petrolheads have tried to import the S15 to the U.S. but the cars were quickly spotted by local official and immediately confiscated.

A man from Mississippi managed to lay his hands on a 2001 Silvia S15 and he faced up to 20 years in jail. Thankfully, after paying around $18,000 in fines he bought himself out of going to prison. If you’re one of the impatient ones and can’t wait a little bit more before buying an S15 – well, at least we’ve warned you what the consequences are.

4. Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R

Don’t you worry! We haven’t forgotten about the Nissan Skyline GTR R34, whose models Hakosuka, Kenmeri and 1990 R32 GT-Rs are now all legal in the U.S. After appearing in ‘2 Fast 2 Furious’ the 1999-2002 Nissan R34 Skyline became one of the most looked-for Nissan Skylines, which can also be driven in Gran Turismo.

That’s the car that’s managed to inspire many petitions to get rid of the 25-year rule, but we don’t want to raise our hopes up, as we can’t see that happening any time soon. So we just have to wait a few more years before it hits the American car scene.

5.Eunos Cosmo

mazda eunos cosmoThe 1967 Mazda Cosmo received the first production two-rotor engine, which immediately gave it the status of an icon. Weirdly, not many are actually aware that it also had a successor, which came out in 1990-1, carrying the name of Mazda’s luxury brand – Eunos. So if you are looking fast cars, Cozmo Mazda is the perfect choice. You could choose between two engines - the 13B two-rotor or the 20B three-rotor, which actually makes the Cosmo the only car with a three-rotor engine.

It shouldn’t come as a big surprise that these cars are normally bought just so they can get their engine exploited to the max! Exactly because of that it’s quite difficult to find a well-functioning Cosmo. Then the most sensible thing to do if you have the money is to get a 1991 Cosmo Mazda before they’ve been completely destroyed.
