MAP The Most Car Brands by Country

The guys behind Top Speed have put together a map that indicates what the most searched car brands and respectfully car dealers on a global scape are.

It took them 12-months (April 2014 to March 2015) to gather enough data from Google in order to create the detailed map. However, some of the data clashes with the 2014 Google Trends report as the data of Top Speed guys was still being processed, listing Ford (not Toyota) as the top search for the United States. Some of the most peculiar findings mentioned by Top Speed include Japan’s obsession with BMW and China’s love towards Tesla.

Overall, however, it is Toyota that wins the ovations. Of course, the presented data doesn’t refer to the ‘most sold’ cars but to the ‘most searched’ ones – else China’s streets would’ve been flooded with Teslas by now. Africa’s top search, on the other hand is Toyota, probably because of the brand’s affordability. In the northwest of the continent it’s Mercedes-Benz and BWM with most ‘search’ fans.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves and make too many inferences based on the data. You could potentially get completely different results by changing only a tiny bit the methodology. Also, the cars that were searched for around last September might be completely different to the ones searched for today. And let’s not forget that searching a particular key word on Google (Tesla) doesn’t necessarily mean that you have yearning to make them selling a car to purchase it.

Car dealer websites are amongst the most searched! You might have as well written ‘How many Teslas get stolen a year?’ and it would weight as much as ‘My favourite car is Tesla’ in the research..
